MENLO PARK, CA -- Accountemps, the world’s first and largest temporary staffing service for accounting, finance and bookkeeping professionals, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the premier national professional association for CPAs, recently announced the recipients of the 2003-2004 Accountemps/AICPA Student Scholarship.

Accounting students Molly Garvin, of the University of Texas at Austin, and Jeffrey Koga, of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, received $2,500 each to support their education; Douglas Reese, of Northern Illinois University, was awarded $1,000 toward his tuition.

“Molly, Jeffrey and Douglas all have demonstrated excellence in their coursework and a strong commitment to the accounting profession,” said Andrew Denka, executive director of Accountemps. “We are pleased to be able to join the AICPA in honoring their achievements and supporting their academic ambitions.”

Applicants for the scholarship must be AICPA student affiliate members currently majoring in accounting, finance or information systems in full-time undergraduate or graduate programs. They must also have completed the equivalent of at least 30 semester hours and have achieved a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

Recipients were selected by a committee composed of Accountemps and AICPA representatives. The decisions were based on scholastic achievement, leadership, future career interests, letters of recommendation and an essay.

“These outstanding students were selected from a group of extremely talented individuals,” said Jodi Ryan, AICPA manager of recruiting programs. “With their exceptional abilities and dedication, they are well on their way to being the future leaders of our profession.”
